Project 1 : On-site sketching & Tonal Values

We are required to engage with the site by experiencing it through a spatial sequence of our choice. While moving in sequence, you are required to record our observation and perception of the spaces and the human habitation of these spaces through free-hand sketches. This sequence must include both exterior and interior spaces

Project 2A : Orthographic projections: plans,sections, elevations.

We are to utilize the given images of a furniture (for Part 1) and a building (for Part 2) to be drawn up. By using the skills demonstrated and explained in the workshops draw up the following required orthographic drawings.

2a Part 1
2a part 2 (plans)
2a part 2 (sections)
2a part 2 (elevations)

Project 2B : Axonometric Projection

We will learn how to execute an axonometric projection by generating an exploded axonometric of the house. These projections will be generated at a scale of 1:100 on butter paper (for construction) and finally inked on A1-sized tracing paper

Project 2C : Perspective Drawings

We are required to construct firstly, one exterior (two-point) perspective followed by one sectional interior perspective (one-point). In constructing both these perspectives, we have to demonstrate the ability to express spatial idea in 3-D form, understanding of 2-D and 3-D relationships in architectural graphics, skills in drawing and composition, creativity and complexity of drawing. Also, our selection of space and exterior form is significant.

Project 3 : Finishing & Presentation

We have to prove our ability as mentioned in the learning outcomes through the following criteria:

  • Creating a highly legible board (a set of panels that can speak and present for ourself without an oral presentation)

  • Understanding their skill set and strengths

  • Identifying what material they need and can produce within set time frame

  • Extra marks for visual identity and/or a consistency in style

Reflection

Through these projects, I have learnt to develop my sketching & drawing skills in different way by using techniques of toning, line and composition. I have also learnt how to use technical pens to make good use of them to portray different line weights in the drawings. I have also learnt that how to draw a good drawing from these few projects. Most importantly, I learnt that the drawings produced were used to talk out my ideas and emphasis through drawings which we called design communication.
